TAGATA MOANA is a program of workshops and events presented at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre. The program includes a number of individual events across September and October 2024. These events intend to highlight artists with connections to the Moana Oceania region, and supports audiences to build greater connections to its art and culture.

‘Lalaga sia tuitui (Mariposa stitch) butterfly stitch & basic weaving techniques’ is a free drop-in activity in the Turbine Hall. Come join veteran Niuean Artist and weaver Sione Falemaka who will share insights into Niuean weaving technique. Lalaga sia tuitui (mariposa stitch) is popularly used in Niue Samoa Tonga Polynesian for the weaving of robust basketries vessels.

About Sione Falemaka
Sione Falemaka is a highly regarded weaver, whose work is held in a number of public and private collections, including in the collections of the Museum of Applied Art and Science in Sydney and the Art Gallery of South Australia.
