Workshop with Valerie Colvin
Create something inspired by the Lotus Pond exhibition with Valerie Colvin
Sun 19 Nov 11:00 AM
Join Local artist Valerie Colvin for a hands-on art making workshop inspired by her exhibition ‘Lotus Pond’. In this hands-on experience, you'll work closely with Valerie to craft your very own bird sculpture, poised elegantly on a stand, featuring a bird species of your choice.
Valerie has been working for years perfecting her ceramic craftsmanship right here on site and at her home studio. She has a special affinity for creating artworks inspired by flora and fauna from her own backyard, including bees, dragonflies, various flowers and plants and many different species of birds. In this workshop you will embrace the meditative and therapeutic process of working with ceramics within an intimate group of like-minded creatives.
No previous artistic or creative experience is required, the artist will take you through the process step by step.
Artwork materials will be provided to you for this workshop.
Please ensure you wear closed shoes and an apron.
This workshop will take place in the Clay House. Don’t hesitate to ask our friendly staff at the Casula Powerhouse reception for directions on the day!

Artist Statement: “The lotus flower is a feature of this exhibition, it sprouts from dark muddy earth and rises through the silted waters to become a stunning work of art... In my new solo exhibition ‘Lotus Pond’ I capture the delicate beauty of lotuses, the graceful movement of the fish, the freedom and elegance of birds, and the buzzing energy of bees in my garden… Aside from being such a strong symbol of peace and calm, the lotus embodies the idea that no matter where we come from, we have the potential to blossom into something remarkable, to rise above our circumstances and become a source of inspiration.” - Valerie Colvin, 2023
