During the period of Leanne Tobin’s ‘Memories of Water (Badu)’ exhibition, Dharug artist, writer and cultural project facilitator Venessa Possum will lead weaving workshops on the second Saturday of January, February, March, and April, using lomandra (mat rushes) growing along the Tucoerah River (George’s River) on site. Under the expert guidance of Venessa, participants will experiment with weaving natural materials while connecting with nature and the country where the Art Centre stands.
This workshop offers a unique opportunity to become immersed in first nation’s culture and story as it takes place inside Leanne Tobin’s exhibition, ‘Memories of Water (Badu)’, in the Switch Gallery. Participants will be surrounded by immersive painting, audio, sculpture and video that speak to the fascinating stories of the Dharug people. You will learn and create in a safe space that encourages participants to work at their own pace and exchange their own stories.
This workshop is designed for everyone, and all are welcome, regardless of previous creative experience or artistic skills. Feel free to drop in for a single session and create a smaller-scale piece, or dive deep into the artistic process across all four sessions to create something more complex.
