Join us on
Sundy 24 September from 11am for
‘Reimagining the Self-Portrait’ a collage and self-portrait making workshop that asks deep questions about how bodies are represented in the media, while also giving you the power to create spectacular new images of yourself.
No previous creative or artistic experience is necessary to participate.

This workshop is a unique opportunity to learn how to think and work like
Eddie Abd, an award-winning contemporary artist with a growing local and international profile.
The foundation of Eddie’s art practice is portraiture. You will work closely with her to explore how we engage with the representations of ourselves and others via portraiture.
Under Eddie’s guidance, you’ll consider how certain images, colours, clothing and body languages captured in photographic portraits contribute to how we think about the subject. Learn how certain elements of an image can signal complex identities like ‘mother, ‘successful’, ‘masculine’ or ‘foreign’.
Then take the power of representation into your own hands and make a character of your own.
Along with giving you an opportunity to connect with others and be creative in a relaxed environment, this hands-on experience will demonstrate how mastering the language of imagery through learning, discussing, and simple making can facilitate a deeper understanding of yourself and the visual world around us.
Further details: What will I do in this workshop?Using a self-portrait or similar that is photographed and provided during the workshop, you will create a character using collage, drawing, embroidery and other simple materials.
