GINA and KERRY TOOMEY - MUNDUHII Exhibition Launch Event
GINA and KERRY TOOMEY - MUNDUHII Exhibition Launch Event
You are invited to join us for the exhibition launch of Kerry Toomey - Munduhii, the inaugural Casula Powerhouse Aboriginal Scholarship Award. The inaugural prize was sponsored by Dharug Strategic Management Group, an anonymous sponsor and the exhibition support is provided by Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre. Kerry Toomey is a Gamilaroi woman from Pilliga, NSW. Munduhii (meaning ‘shoes’ in Gamilaraay, her language group) engages in the stories that wrap themselves around the feet. For Toomey they represent her strong connection to Country and culture and are inspired by stories of her family.
On the same day, we will be launching GINA, an exhibition that brings together works from Gina Sinozich’s artistic career to tell her personal story. GINA is an exhibition that has been in development prior to the artist’s sad passing in 2020. Gina first started painting when she was 70 years old and was a prolific painter, painting nearly every day for almost 20 years. She was a great storyteller and gave a number of interviews over the years. Gina's own words add to the paintings, photos and objects in this special survey exhibition.
Light refreshments will be served.
