Foundation Drawing and Painting Techniques for Realism
with Jo Wong, Summer 2024
Each session comprises an understanding of structures and shadows with pencils, a guided exercise on essential art drawing and practice of fundamental shading, toning and edging techniques to suggest a subject's 3-dimensionality and the depth of a scene. Blending options to achieve realistic effects will be explored in various mediums, such as graphite and colour pencils, charcoal, watercolour, acrylic and oil. Simple exercises will be used to help build foundation skills incrementally for most; more complex subjects/colour palettes will be tailored to the more experienced learners seeking challenges in their artistic pursuits.
Course fee:
The course fee is $155pp including paper and graphite and charcoal drawing supplies. Those who want to practise blending in colour pencil, watercolour, acrylic or oil should bring their own painting set (or use Jo's trial set for $10pp per class).
Note on inclusiveness:
While only the essential aspects and techniques for realistic effects on flat surfaces will be covered in this beginner course, all students are encouraged to practise whichever way fits them most, with all stylistic adaptations supported and celebrated. More advanced learners are welcome to join to sharpen their drawing/painting skills and discuss their plans for personalised projects.
