Join us on Saturday, 15 February 2025 from 11am as we unveil three incredible new exhibitions: Archibald Prize 2024, Young Archie Liverpool, and NEXT 2024.

This is your chance to witness the stunning works of some of Australia's most renowned artists, alongside the vibrant portraits created by our local young talent (aged 5-18) who have captured the faces of people who are truly special to them. From the celebrated figures in the Archibald Prize to the emerging voices in Young Archie Liverpool and NEXT 2024, this event celebrates both established artists and the next generation of great Australian artists coming out of Liverpool!

The event kicks off in the Casula Powerhouse Theatre, where we’ll reveal the winners of Young Archie Liverpool and NEXT 2024. Following the announcements, the excitement builds as four artists from the Archibald Prize 2024 take you on an artist-led tour of the exhibition. This is your chance to experience the art up close and hear directly from the creators about their inspiration, techniques, and the stories behind creating their portraits of distinguished Australians.

Plus, there's so much more! Throughout the day, enjoy light refreshments and dive into hands-on fun with creative stations for the whole family. Whether you're making your own art or simply appreciating the creativity around you, there’s something for the whole family!
This is an event you won’t want to miss – the events is FREE, but spaces are limited so please RSVP to secure your spot.

Order of events:
10:45am – Guests arrive. Guided to theatre for official launch and prize announcements.
11am – Welcome to Country
11:05 – 11:20am – Official proceedings in theatre
11:20am – Light Refreshments in Turbine Hall
11:45am – 12:20pm – Archibald Prize 2024 Artist Talks

About the Exhibitions:

Archibald Prize 2024
Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre and Liverpool City Council are proud to present the Art Gallery of NSW’s Archibald Prize 2024 touring exhibition. The exhibition will be free to enter at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.

The Archibald Prize for portrait painting is Australia’s most celebrated and democratic – sometimes controversial – art award. The trustees of the Art Gallery of New South Wales judge the entries and the winner receives $100,000.

Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre will present the exhibition from Saturday 8 February – Sunday 6 April 2025 as part of the regional tour.

Young Archie Liverpool
Budding artists between the ages of 5 and 18 from the Liverpool Local Government Area (LGA) were invited to submit a portrait for the Young Archie Liverpool competition. The entries were judged by local artist Idil Abdullahi and winners will be announced as part of the launch event.

The Young Archie Liverpool competition is separate to the national Young Archie competition which is held at the Art Gallery of New South Wales each year. Young Archie Liverpool is a special opportunity for local young artists to be part of a local version of the competition exhibited alongside the touring Archibald Prize 2024 exhibition from the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

NEXT 2024
NEXT is an annual exhibition at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre that brings together artworks by HSC Visual Arts students from schools in the Liverpool LGA.

This exhibition offers a unique opportunity for the community to witness firsthand the artistic achievements of the NEXT generation—and a glimpse into the future of Australian art.

The NEXT PRIZE is a $500 cash award and will be given to one outstanding artist from the NEXT exhibition and awarded as part of the launch event. This prize is selected by the Casula Powerhouse Curatorial Team and honours an artwork that demonstrates exceptional technical skill and conceptual depth.
