FLIGHT TAKE OFF
Exhibition launch of FLIGHT
Please join us for when Liverpool City Council Mayor, Ned Mannoun and NSW Minister for the Arts, Ben Franklin officially launch the FLIGHT project from 2pm Saturday 21 January 2023 as part of the 2023 Sydney Festival.
The afternoon will be packed with an exciting range of ‘in-flight entertainment’ that includes incredible live musical performances, activities for all ages and flight themed demonstrations. Watch this space, our website and our socials for updates on the full schedule.
FLIGHT is a six-month exploration of flight at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre. The program will run from January to June 2023 and has been developed in anticipation of the 2026 take-off of the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport and the surrounding Aerotropolis.
Across every artform, we will dissect, discuss and deconstruct air travel, aviation, aerodynamics and the freedoms and perils that flight promises.
The exhibition is simultaneously celebratory and critical, excited about the return of flight yet concerned about its ongoing impact on the environment. This will be an opportunity to re-engage with flight in all its forms after this unprecedented break from it, and to critically engage with the impact of the airport and surrounding redevelopments.
