ABOUT THE EXHIBITIONS‘The unbearable right to see and be seen’ by Eddie Abd‘The unbearable right to see and be seen’ is a new major solo exhibition by artist Eddie Abd. The exhibition explores the tension between self-representative image making and the gaze, inviting an examination of the values we assign to the images that we create and consume. Using both digital images and embroidery, Abd investigates opposing notions converging: modern/ancestral, the homeland/country, the curated/mundane and the digital/tactile.
‘Margaret and the Grey Mare’ by Katy B PlummerMARGARET AND THE GREY MARE (Katy B PLUMMER, music by Sally Whitwell) is an opera, a fever dream about an opera and an immersive video installation. It was made in collaboration with a chatbot, coded to act as a channel to an ancient Celtic land spirit. The project takes place in a nameless forest at the height of the European witch-trials, and explores the possibilities of Artificial Intelligence as oracle, witchcraft as a feminist framework, and the troubling gifts passed down through lineage.
‘Memories of Water (Badu)’ by Leanne Tobin‘Memories of Water (Badu)’ reveals glimpses of life from pre and post colonisation in this region where the Georges River flows. The exhibition provides a insight into the often-overlooked Cabragal Dharug connection to badu (water) and Ngurra (country). Tobin has a long history with Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, however ‘Memories of Water (Badu)’ marks her first solo exhibition with us.
