BlueBack follows Abby, a child who befriends a magnificent wild blue grouper while diving. When Abby realizes that the fish is under threat, she takes inspiration from her activist mum, Dora, and takes on poachers to save her friend.

In Blueback, the colour blue is a celebration of the natural world—specifically the ocean and its fragile beauty. The film’s sweeping coastal landscapes and shimmering underwater scenes use vibrant blue tones to reflect themes of environmental conservation, familial love, and the deep connection between humans and the sea. Blue is both a literal and symbolic presence, representing life, memory, and the emotional tide that binds generations.
