'Looking at Painting' and 'Speech Bubble' - Exhibition Launch
Join us for the launch of two new exhibition a Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre. Both exhibitions celebrate innovative art practices, including Looking at Painting which showcases contemporary artists pushing the boundaries of what is arguable the oldest art form: painting. And Speech Bubble which is a new interactive installation at the cutting edge of light, sound and digital art.
LOOKING AT PAINTING (3 July – 5 Sept 2021) features artists pushing the boundaries of paint. It features a mix of emerging, mid-career and established artists who work with painting, and experiment with the medium through approaches to material, process, and installation.
Each of these artists explore very different themes and ideas through their artworks but together showcase a diversity of painting today.
Artists: NELL, Carmen Glynn Braun, Jody Graham, Rochelle Haley, Kirtika Kain, Hayley Megan French, Claudia Nicholson, Judy Watson, Nyapanyapa Yunupingu
Location: Hopper Gallery
SPEECH BUBBLE (3 July – 22 Aug 2021) is an interactive artwork in the Marsden Gallery. This artwork is part of the A.R.C research project with University of NSW.
The artwork, created by Interactive Media Lab at UNSW, invites audiences to interact with the installation and watch and listen as this interaction creates a choreographed composition of sound and light playing an abstract game of call and response with the gallery audience. Sometimes it sounds as if it is mumbling in its sleep, scat singing or shushing.

Age Suitability: All ages
